Each update expands the EXR app with new content and features and the EXR Community is growing along with it. Rowers worldwide are loving not just the training experience, but the sense of community that comes with it. “It’s inspiring to see experienced rowers welcome newcomers, give advice and encourage them to join one of the many exciting group events. Comradely interactions like these show how the global indoor rowing community is connecting online, celebrating this incredible sport together through EXR”, says CEO Alfred Campenaerts.
As announced at the beginning of the year, the monthly EXR updates in 2026 alternate between big new feature updates and smaller improvement updates. “This approach ensures that your indoor rowing experience keeps evolving consistently with a focus both on upgrading existing functions and adding new content. For example, the upcoming March update is going to add a full training report rework, empowering you to analyze your performance with greater detail”, Alfred points out. Below you can find a list of extra features plannend for release in 2026.

- New map of a real regatta course: Explore a top secret map with lots of new routes.
- Enhanced refer-a-friend system: Unlock exclusive rewards by refering up to 10 friends to EXR.
- Enhanced overlay system: Navigate more quickly through EXR settings with new functions.
- Emote system: Interact with rowers around you and enjoy a motivation boost.
- High-level customization category: Show off your experience with a new item category exclusive for rowers with high levels.
- More rewards: Expect more customization items and special group events packed with high-level rewards.
You will train better with these new EXR features:
- Pace partners: Follow steady pace targets – out this year, promise!
- Reworked Training Editor: Get full control over your custom workouts with improved functionality including heart rate zone training.
- Overhauled Apple TV version: Navigate faster with button-based controls, replacing cursor input for a smoother workout experience.
- More workouts: Look forward to more workouts, including RowAlong’s 2K weekly plan.
Here what else to look forward to in 2026
Besides the big features mentioned above, lots of smaller additions will make your indoor rowing workouts more exciting, rewarding and efficient:
- More routes: Last year, all maps were upgraded with additional routes of all lengths. This year, we aim to feature about 10 routes per map.
- Optimized web functionality: We will add a search bar to EXR’s support pages and a filter for group events. Moreover, we will be improving the EXR profile pages and the workout data shown on the website.
- Verified leaderboards: Compare your results and ranking with rowers using verified rowing machines only.
